Express is a specialty apparel and accessories retailer of women's and men's merchandise, targeting the 20 to 30 year old customer.  The Company has over 30 years of experience offering a distinct combination of fashion and quality for multiple lifestyle occasions at an attractive value addressing fashion needs across work, casual, jeanswear, and going-out occasions.  The Company currently operates over 600 retail stores, located primarily in high-traffic shopping malls, lifestyle centers, and street locations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada, and also distributes its products through the Company's e-commerce website, www.express.com.

 



Express is growing and expanding existing and new channels, including Stores, eCommerce, International and Outlets.  In order to support these growth initiatives, we are transforming our IT landscape with a combination of new technology and upgrades to existing systems.  For example, we brought our eCommerce platform in-house last year and are now completing a site redesign allowing better integration with our consumers both in-stores and online.  In addition, we are currently in the early stages of implementing Oracle Retail Merchandising System (RMS) which will evolve our business processes across the enterprise by replacing an old legacy system.  To support these initiatives we are building out centers of excellence around SOA, Quality Assurance and Project Management.   We are looking for talented individuals with best practices and industry expertise to join our team and help lead us into the future state of technology. 

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is an individual contributor position with responsibility for installation, configuration, engineering and management of complex data warehouse environments that may include multiple operating system platforms, languages, and network topologies.

Essential Tasks
- Participates in business requirement gathering meetings with business users to understand all aspects of the business (functionality, processes, technologies); determine feasibility of requests; identify best approach to provide technology solutions to meet business needs; provide detailed estimations (time, cost, resources); and then translate into technical specifications.
- Completes full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from design, flowcharting, development, testing and implementation. This includes strong integration with other systems. Must be able to provide recommendations for enterprise architecture.
- Provides support and troubleshooting for all related systems and technologies. This includes being a point of contact for business users. Requires strong problem solving and communication skills to interpret issues and provide resolution. Must be able to coordinate with vendor for escalation of support related issues.

​Essential Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field plus four to five (4-5) years of progressive post baccalaureate experience in the field
- Hands On knowledge in required languages, operating systems, databases, development tools, networking, and/or software packages
- Participates in full life cycle projects to understand business requirements and then complete the design, development, testing, implementation and post production support
- Possesses the knowledge of software development (i.e., program design, flow charting, coding, testing, debugging)
- Participates in full life cycle projects to understand business requirements and then complete the design, development, testing, implementation and post production support
- Participates in discussions concerning innovative, cost effective ways to implement new technologies to lead in the evaluation of new products, platforms, and technologies leveraging best practices based on industry standards and lessons learned while taking initiatives
- Translates functional specifications into technical specifications to provide low level details for development life cycle
- Performs administrative functions relation to project activities; project plans, technical specification development, status reports, and issue reporting
- Works with other members of the development team as well as product owners and business analysts to define function and technical requirements
- Writes high quality test driven code
- Assists end users in resolving and identifying system issues by providing application knowledge and technical expertise. Recommend appropriate solutions including risk analysis and work estimates
- Prepares user documentation and train users on new systems and functionality
- Recommends system enhancements, patches or upgrades necessary to support system stability and performance
- Participates in 24/7 on-call support activities

Technical Requirements
- Requires a minimum of three (3+) years w/ recent hands-on experience with any of the common BI toolsets (MicroStrategy, Oracle OBIEE, Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos, Microsoft SSRS)
- Experience working with large data volumes (at least 10-15 Terabytes)
- Ability to pull, analyze and interpret data through Canned/Batch and Ad-hoc methodologies
- Proficiency with PL/SQL, Oracle and relational and multidimensional designs
- Must have understanding of information systems, data modeling, business intelligence, relational database design and knowledge of how to access multiple information sources for analytical purposes
- High capacity for data analysis, data modeling, computer programming, problem solving, sound judgment, accuracy and attention to detail
- Thorough understanding of Data Warehousing architectures, techniques, and methodologies; including Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions, and Aggregation Techniques
- Experience with Enterprise Metadata Design, Development, Administration, and Support
- Experience with Performance Optimization tuning and techniques
- Experience with WebLogic and Java
- Understands the concepts of Big Data

Preferred Requirements
- Knowledge of retail industry a plus
